How to choose the fastest VPN server for your connection
Use ping, distance and sensible testing to find a responsive VPN server without guesswork.
The fastest server is normally a responsive server close to your real location, but distance is not the only factor. Network routes and temporary congestion also matter. A short, consistent test is better than repeatedly choosing countries at random.

What ping tells you
Ping is a measure of response time, usually shown in milliseconds. A lower number generally means the server responds more quickly from your current network. It is especially noticeable during calls, gaming and other interactive use.
Ping does not measure total download capacity. A low-ping server can still be busy, and a higher-ping server may still have plenty of bandwidth for ordinary browsing.
Start close, then compare
Use the app's ping test or sorting tool and try one of the first nearby results. If the connection is slow, compare a second server in the same country. This separates a single busy server from a wider problem with the network or device.
Choose a distant location only when you need that location. Every additional mile and network hop can add delay.
Test fairly
Close large downloads and pause cloud backups before testing. Use the same speed-test service and test location each time. First record the connection without the VPN, then connect and repeat. No VPN can create more capacity than the underlying connection provides.
